Go ahead. Shop ’til you drop.
Nothing beats finding the perfect vacation souvenir. That little special something can keep the memories of your trip alive for years. But instead of grabbing just any ordinary trinket, why not go for something… a bit more luxurious? For that, you’ll need to visit the city just crowned the world’s best for high-end shopping—and no, it’s not Paris or Milan.
Lartisien, a company specializing in personalized travel experiences, recently released its list of the top 10 cities for luxury shopping. To figure out the rankings, the team analyzed data on designer store counts in “cities with prestigious reputations.” After crunching the numbers, Tokyo came out on top.
“Tokyo’s fashion scene—fueled by its iconic street style and Rakuten Fashion Week—continues to draw shopping enthusiasts,” the team shared in their findings. “Our research shows Tokyo is the world’s best city for luxury shopping, with 217 designer stores—the highest in our study. Armani has the strongest presence there.”
The report highlighted that many of Tokyo’s upscale designer shops are in Ginza (fitting, since “Ginza” translates to “silver mint” in Japanese), including the must-visit seven-story Louis Vuitton and the high-end shopping center Ginza Six.
Coming in second place was Hong Kong, which boasts 211 designer stores. “Shoppers in Hong Kong have endless options, from the Landmark and Elements malls to countless flagship stores,” Lartisien noted. While the city has slightly fewer shops than Tokyo, it’s home to the highest number of ultra-wealthy individuals worldwide—all eager to splurge on designer fashion.
